Solution 1: Clear Cookies and Caches from your System

In case the cookies get obsolete, then you might encounter the Gmail error code 404. In such cases, you have to clear out the caches and cookies to resolve the problem. Follow the steps to do the same.

  1. First of all, start the Google Chrome browser and then navigate to the upper-right corner of the browser window. Here you need to click on the three vertical dots.
  2. It will launch the options menu. Here, find and choose the Settings option to see the browser’s settings page.
  3. Then, go to the Advanced icon and click on it to show the advanced settings option for the Chrome browser. After that, tap on Privacy and security and navigate to select the Content Settings.
  4. From the list of options tap on Cookies and choose the one that says “Show all cookies and site data” and tap to open it.
  5. Now, on the new page click on the Remove All button to eliminate all the cookies. Keep waiting while the deletion process is going on. Finally, restart your system and check if the error still persisting or not.

Solution 2: Remove Add-Ons and Extensions

If the above solution doesn’t work, then you can follow this one. Some third-party add-ons restrict users from accessing their Gmail account. Therefore, uninstalling those add-ons can resolve Gmail error code 404. 

Here are the steps on how you can do the same.

  1. First, open Google Chrome and click on the three dots to open its menu. Here, navigate to More tools and select Extensions.
  2. Next, try to confirm which extension may be causing the issue.
  3. Finally, click on the Remove button for that particular extension and restart your browser.
