The Asus series of routers are equipped with a faster processor, and it provides more memory than average. Also, the Asus routers are consist of removal antennas as well as USB ports for connection.

Before proceeding to the setup procedure, ensure that you have an installed Asus router. Also, make sure that you have a personal computer connected to the home network. Besides that, you need Ethernet cables.

Then, check out the given steps and complete the setup procedure on your own.

Step 1: Connect the Asus Router to the Modem

In the beginning, you need to connect the Asus router with a modem to provide the local network with an ethernet cable. 

To do so, first, take an Ethernet cable and after that connect the small end of it to the backside of the router. The colour of the port might be blue or grey.

You should connect the other end to the Ethernet port of the modem. You will see the Ethernet port at the backside of the modem. These ports are generally blue.

Step 2: Connect Power

If you have successfully build up a connection between the Asus router and the modem, then make sure that you use the power adapter that came up with the router.

Now, use the AC power cable and connect the one end to the power source. The other end must be connected to the Asus router’s power input. The power input is generally located at the backside of the router.

Turn on the Asus router.

Step 3: Asus Router Login

If you have successfully applied the above two steps, then you have to open a web browser from your device. Next, enter ‘router.asus.com’ within the address bar and hit the Enter option.

Alternatively, you can type ‘192.168.1.1’ within the address bar and then click on the Go option. If without making any mistakes, if you have correctly entered the IP address, then the login screen will be displayed on the screen.

Here, you need to enter the default username and password. The default username and password is ‘admin’. However, if you have already changed the username and password, then enter them.

After that, the Asus router configuration page will pop up on the screen.

Step 4: Change the Sign-in Credentials

After login to the Asus router’s configuration, go to the Advanced settings. Under here and tap on the Administration option.

This will open a new page. Here, scroll down and tap on the System option in order to change the router’s login credentials.  On the next screen, enter the new login name as well as the new password.

For configuration, you might have to retype the password. Next, tap on the Apply button in order to save the changes.

The default login credentials that you use to sign in to the router settings page are not the SSID and security key that you use to connect the router to the wireless network.

Step 5: Change the Network Name (SSID)

When you have successfully access the setting page of the router, on the right side, you will see the wi-fi network details. From there, proceed to the SSID. Under here, you have to type the new name for the wi-fi network.

If you use both the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz band, then for the 5GHz network, you might have to tap on the 5GHz tab and then enter a wireless name. Finally, tap on the Apply button in order to take the effect of the changes.

Step 6: Choose a Password

To secure your router from hackers, you are advised to select a password that almost impossible to guess.

The length of the password must be lies between the 8 to 12 characters. You should set a password that is easy to remember for you but for other users hard to guess.

You must use several different character types while setting the password. It is highly recommended to change the password within 90 to 180 days.

 Also, while entering the password, you are advised not to share your personal information. Finally, note down the password somewhere.

Step 7: Change the Wi-Fi Password

After login, move to the Network Map. Under here, go to the right side. Here, you will see the wi-fi network details.

Select the Authentication method and under here drop down and choose the WPA2-Personal option. Within the WPA-PSK key, enter the new password.  Tap on the Apply button to save the changes.

Now, the wireless security settings have been updated. However, when you wish to change the wireless security settings, every time you have to connect the wireless device. 

Apart from this, if you use a dual-band Asus router, you might have to repeat all the above steps for the individual network band.

Also, if the router has a guest network, then you should repeat the above steps as the guest network is controlled separately.

  • How to Perform a Hard Reset of the Asus Router?

In the beginning, press and hold the Reset button for 10 to 15 seconds. You will see the reset button at the backside of the router. Next, connect the device with the wireless name Asus and then set up the network.
